In a futuristic sci-fi world, human habitats are divided into the resource-monopolizing “Upper City” and the harsh, deteriorating “Lower City.” Under strict regulations, residents of the Lower City struggle to survive on a substance known as “Pink Spring.” To save his daughter Renmei, who suffers from severe “Underground Fever,” a Lower City father, Jin Han, embarks on a dangerous journey to the Upper City in search of the legendary cure, the “Source Spring.” After infiltrating the Upper City, Jin Han uncovers a shocking conspiracy behind the false prosperity maintained by its ruler, Aolin: the elites’ source of immortality, the “Red Spring,” is actually refined through the brutal extraction of life force from the people of the Lower City. Jin Han also learns that his father, Jin Yan, a scientist, had long ago hidden the “ultimate antibody” capable of neutralizing the Red Spring within Jin Han’s blood in an effort to stop this humanitarian catastrophe. Faced with a moral choice that concerns the fate of all humanity, Jin Han abandons the path of self-preservation. At the cost of his own life, he destroys the core power structure of the exploiting class, shatters Aolin’s scheme, and wins dignity for the people of the Lower City, along with a renewed hope for the rebirth of civilization.

미래의 SF 세계에서 인간의 거주지는 자원을 독점하는 “상부 도시(Upper City)”와 황폐하고 열악한 “하부 도시(Lower City)”로 나뉘어 있다. 엄격한 규제 아래, 하부 도시의 주민들은 “핑크 스프링(Pink Spring)”이라 불리는 물질에 의존하며 생존을 이어간다. 하부 도시의 아버지 진한(Jin Han)은 심각한 “지하열(Underground Fever)”에 걸린 딸 렌메이(Renmei)를 구하기 위해 전설적인 치료제 “소스 스프링(Source Spring)”을 찾아 상부 도시로 위험한 여정을 떠난다.

상부 도시에 잠입한 진한은 통치자 아올린(Aolin)이 유지하는 거짓된 번영 뒤에 숨겨진 충격적인 음모를 밝혀낸다. 상류층의 불멸의 원천인 “레드 스프링(Red Spring)”은 사실 하부 도시 사람들의 생명력을 잔혹하게 추출해 정제된 것이었다. 진한은 또한 자신의 아버지 진얀(Jin Yan)이 과거에 이 인류적 참사를 막기 위해 “레드 스프링”을 무력화할 수 있는 “궁극의 항체(ultimate antibody)”를 진한의 혈액 속에 숨겨두었다는 사실을 알게 된다.

인류 전체의 운명을 좌우하는 도덕적 선택 앞에서, 진한은 자기 보존의 길을 버린다. 그는 자신의 생명을 희생하여 착취 계급의 핵심 권력 구조를 파괴하고, 아올린의 음모를 무너뜨리며 하부 도시 사람들에게 존엄과 문명의 재탄생에 대한 새로운 희망을 선사한다.

중국 단편 영화입니다. 분위기가 굉장히 좋고 디스토피아적인 SF영화입니다. 자원을 독점하는 지배층이라는 주제는 과거나 현대나 미래나 누구나 독같이 상상한다는게 무서운 현실입니다.

주인공은 여기서 혈액속 궁극의 항체를 사용해 권력 구조를 파괴하고 인류의 존엄과 희망을 되찾으려고 합니다. 근래 보기 힘든 SF 단편작품으로 굉장히 흥미롭습니다. 길지 않은 시간에 긴 여운을 주는 작품
